Our doc thinks my son has this. Having blood test done tomorrow.
Does anyone have any experience of it? Am fretting as it's his 6th day off school and not sure what to do about it.

I had it as a student. It's very individual as you can have people who don't really notice it, and people who are really bad.

If he has glandular fever he may be very tired, so don't push too hard for school. He may be better to go part time at first too.

My routine for about 6 weeks was: Get up about 10-11 am feeling much better. About 1pm temperature would start coming up, by 2-3pm I would be asleep again, either over my books if I carried on working, or in bed. Evening I'd wake up, and try and get more stuff done, but my temperature would be sky high by then. I was drinking 6 pints of water overnight (I had plastic pint cups and would fill them before going to bed) without needing the toilet.

I won't tell you how long it took before I stopped feeling tired, but it was a very long time. I think I gave myself complications by trying to continue too long, I only went to the doctor after a couple of months.

But the person I almost certainly caught it off had a mild sore throat and a very mildly swollen gland.

Thanks dewe. It's a bit weird but although he's drinking a lot, he's not going to the toilet much and his wee is really dark -sorry tmi.
Probably sweating it out like you said. Am guessing college won't want him there anyway but maybe get some work sent home. If he feels up to it. Thanks again Smile

I had glandular fever as a student - I also had tonsilitis. I was really really ill and it took me a long time to feel 100% thought I went back to uni a week later - the doctor actually advised me to defer for a year.

Hope he feels better soon.

Well it is full blown GF but since they gave him anti biotics eventually he is much better. Not sure if he has got off lightly but the fatigue that I hear about doesn't seem to have happened. Confused
