Hi everyone

I'm new to this and I really need people to talk to...
My names Nicki I'm 24 from Scotland and i have 3 children, boy 6,girl 3 and another girl 11 months...

My youngest daughter passed out on Thursday morning, I sat her down with a few of her toys and left the room for less than a minute and went back to see how she was and she was flopped over to the side and was blue and wasn't breathing, and I was so scared :-( basically at the hospital I got told she took a reflex anoxic seizure,
Anyone got children with this?
I'm so scared, I can't eat or sleep
Will this kill her?
What do I do?
Please someone help me please x

Nicki, not my area of expertise, but no, if this was an epileptic seizure it will not kill her.
You poor thing. And her, of course.

Had she been unwell, had a fever maybe?
Are more tests planned for her?

Did some research for you here - I learnt something new today: 'tis not epilepsy at all Smile!

Of course you are frightened - who wouldn't be?
Keep her close to you and hopefully you'll get your confidence back.

Soory, the article is a bit technical, but the most important bit is at the end:

"Prognosis
?Reflex anoxic seizures are benign.
?The child usually grows out of it, but it may occur later in life."

Basically, it's a sudden faint and quite harmless.

NormanTebbit · 12/11/2011 22:24

Ok

My DD used to have anoxic seizures. It's bloody terrifying and I called an ambulance the first time. I got a referral to a neurologist who told me they are very common. The brain 'trips' in response to pain or cold or extreme emotion. She is now 4 and hasn't had one for 2.5 years. He warned me she may be prone to fainting or might have a seizure if she jumps suddenly into cold water. She is certainly a sensitive wee thing. She is very emotional.

It is scary but she will probably grow out of it.

What did the a and e doctor say?

NormanTebbit · 12/11/2011 22:26

And he assured me there was nothing to worry about. Go to your GP and ask for a referral to a neurologist who will probably put your mind at rest.

Hi
The a & e doctor told us it was reflex anoxic seizure and told
Us to stay calm when it happens and talk to her calmly, but it's easier said than done.

It's horrible and I used to cry every time it happened. Your DD may need to sleep for a bit afterwards but she is not being harmed by the seizure.

Make an appointment with your GP and they will reassure you. If she's like my DD she will grow out of it in a year or so.

here is a support group, bear in mind many people on here have a more serious condition but it's useful information

Nicki87 · 13/11/2011 10:11

Thanks.
It's just really scarey for me at the moment, I don't want it to ever happen again but it might and I dunno how I'm gonna react, I'm on edge and can't do anything without her being with me :-(
