Shallow breathing and temp 5 days after MMR?

My dd is 13 months and had her MMR 5 days ago along with the other two vaccinations they give at the same time, She had a large swelling around the site of one of them for about 3 days and has been a bit cranky but this afternoon she's been really out of sorts, very sleepy, a bit shaky but the thing that's worrying me most is her breathing. She's breathing as if she's congested, very shallow and fast, but she's not congested. She's asleep now because it's bedtime but I keep checking on her.

Is this kind of reaction normal? If so, are there any suggestions for making her feel better?

Thanks

If she got a reaction from MMR, then the timing is about right. If she has a fever then it's only normal that she's breathing fast. Fever might last a few days, she can also get a bit of a rash.

What is her temp and what is her respiratory rate (ie. breaths per minute)?

I mean that feeling ill few days after MMR is not unusual and it's not serious-but, of course, if she has any really worrying symptoms, call a doctor/nhs direct.

sounds normal to me, this sort of reaction is also in the package leaflet (you have to scroll down to page 44.

I would report the reaction to the yellow card scheme

in the meantime you can give calpol and nurofen but the breathing would worry me. call nhs direct or the ooh gp for advice.

Thanks guys, that link was really helpful mousymouse and winnybella you helped reassure me. I've just woken her up to give her some calpol because she's still very warm but her breathing seems better. Will keep monitoring her through the night tho.

hope she is much better this morning ;)

Sorry for late reply to you both, especially as you were so helpful! I monitored her through the night and she improved slightly, then by the next morning she was absolutely fine. I really think it must have been a reaction to the immunisations, can't think what else it could have been.

Thanks again.
