So we are handling the pox happily as the new spots are coming out.

However the first and biggest spot is now a deep hole that has a green/grey mush in it.

Is this something than needs to be seen by a doctor or will anticeptic cream do?

They can get infected. I'd use the antiseptic cream and see the Doctor if it doesn't improve. Good luck with the itching.

McPhee · 12/11/2011 21:49

That'll be the leader spot. I'd make sure its kept nice and clean, pop a bit of antiseptic on but make sure it doesn't become too moist. A quick call to NHS Direct wouldn't hurt.

Nat38 · 12/11/2011 21:53

I`d agree with all of the above!! Aswell as, have you got a walk in clinic near by you could visit if you felt you needed to see someone face to face??

ooh thanks all,
right this morning it is oozing green pus, have wiped it down - all the others are doing what I would have expected and getting bigger the scabbing over.

I have some gentle tea tree facial cleanser so was going to use that to make sure it is clean.

Does that sound ok?

Oh I think that might sting like buggery. Erm, not sure what to suggest, maybe some cooled salt water then make sure its nice and dry after? It might be worth calling nhs direct, coz it sounds like its getting a bit nasty now.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 13/11/2011 11:02

no, I think it is clearly infected and could do with some antibiotic cream

thanks folks, saw the out of hours doctor and we have oral antibiotics and oral antihistamines.
she said to totally leave them alone aside from a warm bath twice a day.

Great stuff. Fingers crossed its smooth running for you now.

How's your little one coping?

franke · 13/11/2011 17:26

Poor you. My three have just had it one after the other and that was bad enough without any infection type complications. Hope all is well soon.

NellyTheElephant · 13/11/2011 19:49

Do keep a close eye on it and be sure that it is improving with oral antibiotics. My DD became really very ill with staphylococcus infected chickenpox and eventually ended up in hospital for over a week on IV antibiotics. I am sure that your little one will be absolutely fine and I don't want to worry you unnecessarily, I just say to keep a close watch on it as we all tend to think of chickenpox as a fairly harmless illness and so I was totally caught out when my DD became so ill from what started as a minor infection into a couple of her spots.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 14/11/2011 09:51

thanks all,
his mankiest (sp?) one is looking slightly improved today.
we have agreed that he can tap his itchy ones with the tip of his finger but he mustn't scratch.
Nelly thak you for your words, I think that is why I was eager for him to be seen yesterday rather than waiting.

It now seems like he has a cold, not sure if it s a cold or part of the chicken pox!

Anyway things seem to be going in the direction CP normally goes. Hope it will be over towards the end of the week.
