which is best for does it not really matter?

The general advice is not to attribute a temp to teething as it shouldn't really cause a problematic temp and if you assume it's teething, you might miss something else.

With a temp, the thing is you can have a child with a v low grade fever who is displaying symptoms which are really worrying and a child with a high fever who is perfectly happy.

What symptoms does ds have? What is his actual temp? Have you given anything?

With a teething baby I'd recommend starting with teething powders/cold flannels/cucumber etc, moving to bonjela and then calpol/nurofen as a last resort. Nurofen probably as it's an anti-inflammatory too but either will reduce a temp or pain. But in your case I'd question if it's JUST teething.

His temp was 39.4 but is going down. I have given him 5ml of calpol. He also has a cold so temp could be that? Snotty nose, not sleeping, red and blotchy face ( not a rash)

Oh dear. Sounds like a combination of teething and a cold. Good that the temp's coming down with meds. Keep him in light clothing with air circulating, loose covering in bed (blanket or sheet instead of a duvet) and lots of fluids. Do see a gp if you're worried, the temp continues or he seems not himself, there are new symptoms etc.

Poor boy. I hate it when they're ill. And they feel it more when teething ime.
