My dh is 6ft 8 and i am 5ft 10 so we have really tall dc. Our daughter who is 5 this week wears age 8 clothes and is around 123cm

We had a parents meeting tonight and the teacher said she was a little concerned about her pencil control. That she doesnt really hold it well and work is a little clumsy. She is exceptionally clumsy at the moment but i had put it down to a recent growth spurt. She is constantly falling over, tripping on things and stubbing her toes.

Apparently my dh was really clumsy when he was a child (still is imo!)

I couldnt help feeling the teacher was thinking there might be a problem, perhaps dyspraxia? But having googled it apart from the being clumsy and the pencil control nothing else fits. She was very quick to crawl and walked at 9 mnths, has been riding a bike without stabilisers since 3.

I definitely feel her size doesnt help her, after a growth spurt she constantly stubs her toes/trips/bumps her head.

I cant help but worry.

Anyone any experience of similar?

Ds is 124cm and will be 5 at christmas. His pencil control isn't great. He walked very early too.

Don't think its all related though to be honest and in your position I wouldn't be overly worried.

There can be a difference between gross motor skills and fine motor skills so it is possible that your daughter does ok with gross motor skills but has more trouble with fine motor skills such as writing. It might be a good idea to ask your GP to refer her to occupational therapy. They should be able to assess her motor skills and give you some ideas for ways to improve those things that she finds difficult.

DD is a similar age and size, and she is also rather clumsy with slowish fine motor skills. But so was I as a child, although I sometimes have difficulty remembering that when I'm trying to help dd. I suppose there's no harm you getting your DD checked, but I am wary of medicalising 'being tall' (as I had a lot of it when I was young).

BTW your dd sounds way ahead of mine in the walking, crawling, bike-riding etc...
