Ds is 4 and has them. First spot saturday but was tiny and thought nothing of it. Turned into blister yday and he had/has fever. Has lots more spots.

Dd is only just 1, she has come out in a few suspicious spots this evening, temp is 37.4.

I'm a massive panic merchant worrier about the kids. Dh at work all week and I'm worrying myself silly.

Can anyone help me chill out a bit? I know I need to 'grow up' as my mum says but I am trying a promise!

(Am on meds for anxiety)

It's awful, I really do feel for you. Someone on here told me about aqueous calamine cream - brilliant stuff and stays put.
Try to look after yourself too, soooo hard to do when you have ill children, but don't get too tired because it makes everything seem so much worse. Keep posting, some fab support on here. Fwiw they're only unwell for three or four days, then they don't seem to be that bothered. DD is 5 and had it a few months ago, didn't honestly care after the first few days, enjoyed getting her own way with the tv remote because her brothers felt sorry for her!!

Ds so far is fine in himself, hope it lasts!

Pretty concered for dd as she is so little though...

Awwww so sorry to hear you have 2 with CP Sad

I think the worst thing for them is the itching. As MrsShrek has already said aqueous calamine cream is great, piriton is also good. My worst night with DD ended in running a cool bath for her and putting some porridge oats into the foot of some tights and squeezing it in the bath water. Makes the water go all milky but it's very soothing to the skin. Seemed to work!

Hope they are better soon Smile

Dd1 had it at 3 1/2 and kindly shared it with her sister at 6 months. Dd2 was really ill with it, absolutely covered with over 500 spots (we gave up counting at that point). Dd1 had less than 50 spots, and never seemed ill except a mild temperature.

Ds had it at 3 1/2 and wasn't very ill, but had a good covering of spots including in the unusual places, sole of foot, inside ears (which caused concern as he has ear problems), on the tongue, which looked most strange and also had the doctor worried that he had them down his airway and in his lungs as he also developed a cough. In retrospect he was much better than dd2, but still caused the dr. some concern due to the positioning of the spots.

Not really reassuring me guys...

DD had them everywhere- ears, nose, throat, inside her bottom and vagina etc. She was utterly, utterly cheerful throughout. Porridge and bicarb eased the itch. Hardest thing was the quarantine. Please try not to worry, most of the illness bit happens before and as the spots emerge.

leftmydignityatthedoor · 07/11/2011 20:06

Thanks showofhands.

Ds is in fine mood so far, happy as larry bless him.

Dd is a whine anyways when stuck in the house so she will be fun!

Poor ds, he has so many apots and his temp is higher and he is iller in himself :(

Dd's suspicious spots have gone .... For now!

Can't decide whether better for them both to be ill and quarantined at once or not. I think not at the moment.

Giving ds piriton, calpol and eurax. On spots.

How many days do they usually get new spots for?

My DD (18 months) has the pox too. Bicarbonate in the bath has worked a treat here too. Mind you if I get another bad night's sleep I am selling her to Madonna.

waytoomuchchocolate · 09/11/2011 10:25

I have 3 yr ds with it at the moment, we are a day ahead of you (rash started friday night/Saturday) and he is out of the feeling ill stage today, I'm sure your ds will feel better soon too. The worst bit is by far staying inside! Am making excellent use of DVDs and cbeebies.

I think spots appeared for about 3-4 days, but the last ones to appear have been much smaller and milder. Bicarb in the bath does seem to have really helped dry them up.

I also have 13 month old ds2, but no sign of it there yet...I expect our little ones will get it in about another week! Def best for it to be separate I think although it does string out the quarantine.

Hope you are surviving today!

alison222 · 09/11/2011 10:46

The spots come in waves several day apart.
Calpol for the fever is good and piriton for the itching.
I also recommend Bircarb in a tepid bath to soothe the spots.
The first few days are the worst until the fever goes down, then they just are spotty - well at least that was the case with my DC's who got it one after the other.

leftmydignityatthedoor · 09/11/2011 18:15

Thanks all.

His temp is higher + a bit less controllable today. He is also complaining of a sore willy though no spots on there as yet.

Has canesten for it and taking urine sample in tomorrow.

He seems much itchier today too bless him.

He has been pretty much ok in himself - dd driving me mad though! He had been eating and drinking fine but a bit less so this afternoon.

Just hope its not a uti and the dreaded poix ar reaching their peak.

He has a birthday party to go to on sunday - what are the chances of him making it do you think??

OP posts:
leftmydignityatthedoor · 10/11/2011 04:18

Any advice please, his temp is now 39.3.

I'm almost certain he has soome kind of bacterial infection but am worried docs won't help as will think its 'just' chickenpox. He has got considerably worse in last 24 hours and this is day5/6, that's not right is it?

Also he is allergic to penicillin and erthromycin. What will they give him? He had clarithromycin at xmas but it was hell getting it into him. If its a uti will his treatment be different? He has been complaining of pain when weeing.

How common is this with chickenpox - I am worried sick about him but also concered because dd is only 13m and has this all to go through.

Any advice much appreciated.

Can you get a urine sample from him and have someone drop it in for you? If you're worried about how he is in himself then request a doctor appt. (make sure you mention he has cp so they can put you in a special waiting area.
Maybe he has a spot or two in his urethra? That might make it sore to wee.

Probably not what you want to hear but paracetemol can prolong the length of time it takes for spots to scab over by a couple of days so maybe that's why it seems to be taking a while. :( Hope he feels better soon.

leftmydignityatthedoor · 10/11/2011 10:06

Have never heard that about paracetamol - why is that?

Had him at docs, urine dip tested and clear but sent to lab. Has c pox under foreskin and now loads in mouth too so won't eat and is much unhappier :( feel so so so sorry for him.

One of spots vvv red too so nurse says to keep eye on it.

I hope it isn't this bad for dd.

Hi
Sorry you're having a hard time, poor DS. We found it was 8 days from 1st spot to being basically finished with DD1 and a bit longer (10/11 days) with DS and DD2. Don't have any good advice for your DS, I'm afraid, but wanted to offer a bit of reassurance about little DD that my youngest had it at 11 months and weren't too bad at all and seemed to manage the itching better than my bigger DD.

leftmydignityatthedoor · 10/11/2011 15:37

Thanks jass
