Severely red arm - reaction to pre-school booster

My ds had his booster on Monday, 24 hours later he had a very red, sore, hot and swollen arm, yesterday it was almost from his shoulder to his elbow.. today fractionally less. I phoned nhs direct early this morning, the nurse said as he was ok in himself, didn't have temp and it looked like it was slightly reducing in size that there was no need to see a doctor.

Has anyone's child had a similar reaction? I think I just need some reassurance that I shouldn't be rushing him to a doctor!

My DD had same - arm swollen, hard, hot and red. Took about a week to calm down, from memory, and I think there was a lump there for a while, but she was fine.

yes, DD had hers a few weeks ago, sounds very similar reaction to your DSs.

a spoon of paracetamol syrup should help with the painSmile

yes exactly as you describe, he is now 7 and absolutely fine

Thanks for the responses, I'm glad to report his arm didn't drop off and is back to it's former normal arm shape/colour. Logged the reaction with the docs though, panic over :o

Same here it was the DTP Hib side for DD it lasted 3 weeks, logged by GP we may not give 16 booster as long duration suggests reaction may escalate.
