Sticky eyes (conjunctivitis?) in 5 year old. See GP?

5 year old dd has had sticky eyes for the last couple of days, very sticky in the morning, fine during the day and then discharge starting in the evening.

I've been cleaning them with cooled boiled water. They aren't getting better but no worse either. I looked up conjunctivitis and am undecided on whether she needs to see a doctor. It seems drops can sometimes irritate the eyes and only speed up healing by a couple of days.

She is on mid-term so no worries about passing it on to other kids.

(Have to admit to dragging my heels a bit as doctor's visit will cost ?45 but if she needs to go I'll definitely take her)

Anyone any advice?

Thanks

Shameless bump as I will need to ring for an appointment by 8.30 if going to the GP.

Thanks

Can you go and ask the chemist to give you drops?

Dd gets conjunctivitis quite often (as do I) but I just go to the chemist.

(especially Shock at the cost of the doctor...)

Optrex Infected Eyes

Works a treat with my 5 year old DD

Thanks for the replies.

Just checked out Optrex infected Eyes - NOT available over the counter here. The health service in Ireland is such a money racket.

Looks like I'll be shelling out ?45 for the GP and whatever the cost of those drops is so.
Wouldn't mind so much only that every visit to the GP means 1-2 hours wait even with an appointment. We were only there for a check up for dd's asthma last week.

Can you not ask a pharmacist to look at her and recommend something else?

DH just took a look and reckons it is improving so I am going to try the pharamcist this morning and see if there is anything they recommend.
Doesn't look promising though - it seems anything with antibiotic is prescription only.

Thanks
