My DS 5 has had tummy bug since last wed. Started with temp reaching 40 then diarrhea that has not gone away. Started doing BRAT but still no change. Took him to doctors yesterday who said she wanted sample as their had been small amount of blood and that thought might be a gastro bug. She also said that I ncoukd feed him whatever he wanted and to avoid nothing that dairy etc was fine.
Does anyone else have any experience of this? He is well in himslef now and wants to eat but it is not stating in very long.

Thanks

Fluids are key. Plus whatever he wants but I'd stick to things easy on the stomach.

DialMforMummy · 01/11/2011 20:21

I'd feed him if he's hungry, simple stuff like pasta and rice. Agree that fluids are key. Diarolyte is great for rehydration but tastes foul.

Doing BRAT??? What's that?

OrmIrian · 01/11/2011 20:28

Yuck no! I use food.

ShowOfHands · 01/11/2011 20:31

Just give whatever he wants within reason and lots of fluids. BRAT or similar isn't shown to shorten the duration.

Hullygully · 01/11/2011 20:36

I wouldn't feed with diarrhoea. Try food. So much more healthy.

Hullygully · 01/11/2011 20:37

Oh. Sorry, Orm, you already got there..

LEMONADEGIRL · 01/11/2011 20:43

thanks for those who were kind enough to reply with serious replies - i guess my sleep deprivation ( based on getting up 4- 5 times a night for the past week with a sick child) has given me a sense of humour bypass Orm and Hullygully - your wit is outstanding
