Advice on giving Gaviscon to a ebf baby who wont take a bottle, please

my twins have been prescribed gaviscon to ease reflux, they Are 19 weeks now and have never had a bottle so are sucking on the teat but not getting anything out.
They gave me sachets of powder which have to be mixed with 15mls of water for each baby.
I tried using a medicine syringe which they happily have calpol from but they just spit it out as there is a hell of a lot of liquid.
I tried giving it very slowly but they just wouldnt swallow it.
I will try again with the bottle tomorrow but they arent entertaining the idea.
I am going to ring the pharmacist in the morning to ask but am appealing to the wise of mumsnet!

Any ideas? Has anyone used infant gaviscon in another form, does it have to be the powder sachets?

TIA

Have you tried squirting it into the centre of the cheek? It's much harder for them to spit it out if you do that. There's a bit of a knack to doing it at first, and it might take two of you - one to hold the child and one to dose - until you get the hang of it. Perhaps your Practice Nurse or HV could help demonstrate?

My biggest problem was mixing the stuff up, I used a small lidded container and shook hard.

Could you try making it up in a smaller amount of liquid for the time being?

dd was 6 months when they finallly agreed something was wrong so I gave up and started bottle feeding Sad

We used to mix it up with alot less water than it said. I also found giving it on a (calpol) spoon was easier than syringing, but that might just be my medcine loving daughter!

Can you express a little milk? It only needs to be a little. Mix the gaviscon into it to make the milk until it's sort of slurpy like calpol. Then you can either give it by spoon or sryinge.
Child I looked after hated it mixed with water, but once it was mixed with milk she loved having it and would refuse to feed until she'd had it.
