Dd is 10.5mths. First cold appears to have erupted and I think it's my fault. Actually, it must be. I've been sick a week. Cough to literally die for too. We bf eat and sort of sleep in a cot then co sleep when necessary. It's our first cold. I seem to be omnipotent for dh, but feel bizarrely clueless. I thought it was teething but today a small temp rise, rattiness and thick yellow green snot make me certain she's caught my poxy bug. Was using calpol at night only but upped today to proper dosage. Eating ok, thirsty-er for water and comfort. I've tied muslin with menthol on it to the cot but what else can one do for a baby?

Can baby's catch adult colds? Any advice? Feeling proper guilty. She's co-sleeped so I must have been breathing over her like a tornado of virus. Although maybe time change not helping....or I've just blatantly made her sick....

First colds are always aweful as babies have never experienced it before. Best thing I've found is calpol to keep temperature down and a vapor rub for babies ( I use boots own but sparingly). If you use a vapor rub just use a small amount at first incase your dd doesn't like it. Don't worry if she goes off food just keep an eye on her fluid intake. Saline drops in the nose help clear it so she can feed better, your GP can prescribe them or you can buy them over the counter.

If she stops having wet nappies or you're worried take her to the GP to be checked.

I know you feel guilty but there is nothing you could have done to stop her getting sick, colds are very easy spread and would have been almost impossible for you to stop her getting it.

Oh and the best medicine is always lots of cuddles.
