my nearly 3yr old ds has been having very frequent nosebleeds. He has lost his appetite and is very tired and lethargic the majority of the time. The frequency of the nosebleeds has increased from 3-4 a week to 5 in 2 days. We have been to see the gp, had bloodtests today and have an appointment to see the pead ent in a month. I just keep worrying there maybe something very wrong. Need some positive stories and reassurance please. Thanks

If it was something terrible, the gp would ring you at home within hours. This happened to a friend of mine who had acute leukaemia. I hope that sets your mind at rest a little and that you get to the bottom of your ds's problems

thanks ace. Blood tests were done at the hospital not gps so not sure when i'll hear.

Probably even sooner as they wouldn't need to send the sample over for analysis. I hope all is well and you manage some sleep tonight. It's horrible when dc's are ill Sad

Ace is right, if there was something untoward you would likely know about it already

It sounds like he could possibly be anaemic, and his body is using the nosebleeds as a "dump" so it can replenish the lost blood with more iron rich stuff.

Whatever it is, the results will be ready in 3 days - no matter where they were taken, they work on a central computer system now, so you can ring the GP and ask for them

I would never be blase where my child's health was concerned. There have been some appalling threads on here as to GPS and even non-specialist hospitals missing some very serious conditions.

I would be very pro-active in demanding quick results and use A&E if you are even remotely concerned about any deterioration.

If you can afford it or have insurance, I would also try to find a good private paed who can at least review results with you and demand further tests if necessary.

My son had very frequent nosebleeds when he was 4/5. I took him to the Pediatrician who took his blood and found his iron levels were low. He had to take syrup and the levels returned to normal after a few months. The nosebleeds remained frequent and started to slow down in frequency when he was around 7. Now he is 10 and only gets a nosebleed once in a blue moon.

Nosebleeds are very common in kids - and most of the time nothing serious.
