white eye in photo

my daughter showed a white eye in one or two pics from our holidays. so i brought her to our gp who did a red eye reflex test then referred her to an ophtamologist, appointment is not until next week. i am worrying myself sick about why shes being referred as the gp did not tell me why he was referring her :o would the gp referr her if there was nothing to worry about? and what should i expect at her ophtamologist appointment?? please advice needed :(

Hi, My DS had the same thing when he was around 3 months old, thankfully it was nothing serious, just a reflection off the back of his eye. During his appointment they put some drops in his eye and has a look whilst in a dark room. At the appointment, however, they found that he was slightly longer sighted than he should be and he's now developed a squint so we are being sent back for treatment- I'm not sure if this is related.

The more serious conditions, I believe if I remember correctly, are a more common in the elderly. I would have thought the GP would have sent you straight away to A&E if he thought it was serious.

hopefully it was just a reflection off the back of her eye like you suggested, but it has shown in a couple of photos from different angles :( so not sure if it is a sign of leukocoria ?? which can be symptom of retinoblastoma ?? is there any way of posting pictures to this thread??

Could you take her to an optician tomorrow? Often you can get a same day appointment and it might give your more information.

Hi missymoo1 I probably over reacted a little but I took DS to A&E and they happily checked DS over at their specialist eye unit. You could do the same to put your mind at rest instead of waiting for your appointment.

They didn't treat me like I was neurotic, but to be honest I wouldn't care if they did.
