DD (5) Year 1 woke up in the night with a sore ear. She's had a cold for about a week. She doesnt have a temperature at the moment, there is no redness or discharge from her ear, but she looks tired, a bit pale, and heavy around the eyes. Calpol perked her up considerably and Ive kept her off school as a precaution and as a result there were lots of tears first thing, she likes school a lot! My plan is just to keep an eye on her today, she is upset as she was supposed to be going on a playdate after school, so I don't think its anything to do with not wanting to go to school.
Just not sure if she needs a Dr appt or not. What would you do?

Ears are horrible. I probably would get it checked if she's really in pain. Not always much the doc will do as they get better on their own more often than not, but always best to check I think.

I had the exact same thing with ds, also y1, last week. Went to doc because he only rarely complains and she said he had nasty ear infection and gave antibiotics. He was off school that day but wanted to go back th next, so I took med to him at lunchtime. Def worthwhile going...

Unless she has a history, or it's been going on for 3+ days I wouldn't bother. Most GPs won't give antibiotics for ear ache at that age.
Ibroprofin may help more than calpol.
If there's any discharge then do get it checked.
