Toe walking

Have posted this before, but my 21 month old ds is toe walking. He has walked since he was 10 months old, but I am noticing it more and more. I was under the impression it was reasonably common, but everyone I ask has never experienced it. I would say he is on his tip toes half the time, and it happens more when he is barefoot.

Am waiting for the HV to call, but my friend who is a HV is not concerned as is able to put all his weight down.

I am the anxious type, so be gentle.

I'd pop him to the GP, there may be a problem with his calf muscles, they could be too tight. It's not normal for children this age to walk on their tip toes.

HV begged to differ, I'm afraid.

It's up to you. I'd take him to the GP though, HV's can be wrong.

He is being checked in October anyway, so he will be seen then

You need to get him referred to a physio. My son did this and it was an issue.

Thanks ever so much for that. We are doing exactly what is suggested, having him checked by the HV. Also, my ds can put his weight down on both feet.

Really Fab? What did they say? How was it corrected? Did he ever put his weight down?

He wasn't allowed to sit on his W which basically means he was knelt on his knees with his bottome down making an upside down W. Lately he has had some osteopathy sessions too and he is fine now.

Dd2 does this, they arent sure if it's the hypo-mobility or the autism but physio has had to give her special boots.

I would definitely see your GP about it and enquire re: a physio referral.

Health Visitors have to cover a huge array of things and so (this is not meant in a derogatory way) are Jack of all trades. Physios are a lot more specialised in things such as this so it would be worth getting your ds seen.

BTW I find it strange that we see so many HV bashing threads, and so few like this where the OP is happy to accept the HV's opinion.
