BCG jab for a newborn? Needed for travel?

We live in Surrey and the BCG is no longer offered as a matter of routine for newborns.

We paid for DD to have the BCG privately after she was born 3 years ago because we sometimes travel to countries where TB is still present, like South Africa.

Our DS has been born recently and the travel clinic where we took DD for her BCG has since closed down. I can't find anywhere else that will vaccinate a newborn, the youngest is 12 years old.

We aren't planning to travel anywhere soon, but I'd just like to get him done for peace of mind, in case we decide to go anywhere last-minute, and to give it lots of time to heal up.

Has anyone else come across this? Did you bother? Does anyone live in Surrey/London and where did you go for the BCG?

We've used Surrey GP for flu jabs before and not even they do it...

If the clinics are only offering vaccine for 12 upwards I wonder if there is a shortage/licence problem with paediatric vaccine? Seems odd.

Try posting in the living overseas section too. There may be mums there who have moved over to areas such as Asia and who wanted to get this done.

My DS2 was born 2 years ago in Surrey and he was given the BCG before we left hospital. However, my friend has a homebirth and they weren't allowed it

BCG is, it seems, no longer routine in Surrey.

Or, I think it used to be offered at St.Peter's due to more multi-cultural births and not at Royal Surrey, where DS was born.

DD wasn't born in Surrey so it wasn't an option for her anyway.

Ah yes DC2 was St Peters so that would explain that.
