Necrotizing pneumonia

What is it? Just googled and got a variety of definitions ranging from abcesses to dissolving lung tissue.

My poor little niece has it.

Any knowledge on this please?

Anything with 'necrotising' attached to its description means it is a strain that causes tissue to die. Necrotising Pneumonia is therefore a complication of standard pneumonia or a rather nasty case of it that means it can actually cause some of the lung tissue to die.

That sounds scary. Perhaps scarier than it actually is in this day of antibiotics and high tech medicine. It may need stronger antibiotics and sometimes it needs investigating more thoroughly (samples/draining any fluids from the lungs etc) to find and treat the cause.
