Severe Impetigo - DD refuses medicine

So my DD has been diagnosed with severe impetigo. First spot appeared last week Wed and went to GP with her on Friday. She was prescribed amoxicillin and fucidin cream. It hasn't helped and she was back at GP's yesterday. She saw a different GP who now said no it is shingles (!) and gave her flucloxacillin. Different GP today now says it is definitely impitago (well we all knew that) and she must take the flucloxacillin instead as amoxicillin not helping. They gave us a sugarfree version which she point blank refuses to take. Last night OH tried to force her to take it. Cue DD vomiting all over. I'm at a complete loss and getting rather worried. GP saying that if she doesn't take the medicin DD might have to be put on a drip at the hospital.......

How old is your DD ? Can you bribe her ?

Try mixing into a yogurt/petit filou with a bit of extra sugar added.

When DS2 was 8 I had to bribe him to take metranizadol (sp) by offering chocolate after he'd had it. This was a truly dreadful tasting medicine, worse than the flucloxacillin. A syringe worked best for dosing - one shot and it's in.

can you return to pharmacist and ask for aa sugary version? it's so important to keep taking the medicine, and the impetigo must be quite distressing. good luck

flucloxacillin. foul ,I really struggled to disguise the taste,in the end I am afraid we did have to shoot it with the syring to the back of the throat and then ice cream to take taste away,chocolate seemed to work best .Hope your dd feels better soon ,I would second talking to a pharmacist,would she be able to swallow a tablet?

That's weird, 3yo DS was prescribed oral antiBs for impetigo few weeks back and he loved the syrup. I strongly doubt DS even had impetigo, that is my own niggling doubt in your story, OP. It's a lot of trouble to go to (a drip?!) when of course GP just looked at your child to make diagnosis (no cultures taken), plus it sounds like GP keeps saying different things (shingles?!).
