Yellow pus-filled lump on DD's knee

My DD (5) has a large yellow lump on her knee - looks like it's filled with pus. She says it hurts, particularly when it's touched. My initial temptation is to pop it (I won't - I just want to). Any ideas? Never seen anything like it before.

Why not pop it - then clean and plaster?

Personally I'd put a needle in and then clean and disinfect thoroughly.

i'd pop it too. if it's filled with pus, it's infected and needs cleaning.

Weirdly I had this the other day - it was agony! Mine was an ingrowing hair. Which I've had before, but never to the extent of causing infection like this. I think it's because you kneel on your knee and it gets more irritated and inflamed.

I popped it - but then it was my own knee - not sure I'd have allowed anyone else near it with a needle!

Thanks all. I popped it in the end. She wouldn't let me near her, but we had friends round to play, so I got the other mum to distract her then got it with a sterilised needle before she realised what was going on... Lots of pus, but disinfected and put a cool plaster on and she's happy.

Took her to the pharmacist before that though, but the actual pharmacist wasn't there and the two ladies who work there told me it looked very nasty and she would probably need antibiotics

Go to the chemist & buy some magnesium sulphate. Apply a small blob & cover with a plaster, changing after bath/at bedtime.

It's fantastic stuff for pulling out the pus.
