Why is my 5yo always snotty?

Poor DS is ALWAYS snotty, we have about 1 full month snot free per year.

We've been fobbed off with "it's just a cold" for the past 2 years and I have a doctors appointment with a different GP next week.

It's a mixture of clear and green, sometimes his breath can be a bit off, but not usually.

Can't be normal surely?

DD had thick green snot always pouring out of her nose, particularly right nostril, from about 6 months until she had her adenoids out. When particulary bad I would have to wash her bedsheets every day as they would have crusty snail trails everywhere! No adenoids = no snot : )

Thank you, something needs to be done, it's really getting him down now Sad

Are there any other symptoms to suggest a adenoid problem?

hmmmm allergies?

A year ago he used to have explosive bowel movements after dairy, GP said it was a temporary lactose intolerance due to a stomach bug, it's stopped now but it's definitely something to ask about.

Heavy snoring also indicates adenoid problem. I forgot to say she had them out when she was 3 1/2. Surgeons are reluctant to take them out before they are 5 as there is risk of bleeding. However some surgeons remove them by suction Confused and will do it earler. Good luck.

He doesn't sleep well, lots of choking on snot, but doesn't snore.

He can't blow his nose or breathe through it very well so I spend all day chasing him with tissues, it's making us both miserable.

might be worth cutting out dairy for a little while to see if it improves? dairy is known for increasing mucous production....

it won't hurt to cut it out, and if nothing changes at least you'll have ruled that out!

Adenoids? My daughter is nearly four and is going to have her adenoids out next week, she snores, is constantly snotty and talks like she has something up her nose!

She's also having grommets, the consultant we saw put a camera up her nose and it was practically blocked by her adenoids?

Might be worth a referral to ENT to check?

My ds was always nasally and snotty. Did allergy Tests, which showed allergic to several things Inc dust mites. I now have special covers on his matters, duvet and pillow, and Hoover his bed each time I change it and his symptoms have been massively improved. Hth
