DS1 (6) suddenly developed large blister on thumb, any ideas?

He woke up this morning with a large blister around the nail of his thumb. It is full of a white /clear looking liquid and seems quite tight. he says it hurts to touch, but has been at school all day without any problems. I cant think how he got it, he hasnt been rubbing it against anything, althoug he does bite his nails.

What should i do?

I'd dettol a pin, stick it in and squeeze it, but I just like doping things like that!

Maybe put it in a bowl of warm salt water? It'll draw out any infection

Might try the salt water, but dont know if hed let me near him with a pin, hes bad enough having his nails cut!! I can never remember wether you should burst blisters or leave them, I remember sewing up blisters on a Duke of edingburgh expedition many years ago, but I dont think thats recommended!!

Ooh I wonder if I know you in RL Missmap from years ago, I was on a DofE exped where we went through an Army camping ground and they showed us sewing blisters! Anyhoo- try magnesium sulphate paste dolloped on and a little bandage over the top to draw it out. Prob an infection from biting. Mag Sulpgh available from chemists and use much more than you'd think. Its also good for drawing out splinters.

Thanks mocking birds, no I wasnt shown on an army camp, but by some scouts in the next tent!! It didnt work any way.
