She is 13 months now and we are going to Spain to visit family on 28th June. A letter came home from DS1s school on Friday to say there is some sort of outbreak going on and all kids going abroad need to be up to date.

According to her book she needs 12 week DTaP/IPV/Hib and Men C, 16 week DTaP/IPV/Hib, Men C and PCV, 12 months Hib/Men C and now she is 13 months 1st MMR and PCV. :o

What the funk is going to happen?
Will she be able to have all she needs before we go abroad?

Have called surgery and have to take her in tomorrow at 10am to immunisation clinic.

I'd have thought they'd do the 12 week vaccination and the 13 month vaccination, then the 16 week and 12 month jabs at a later date as they're the same as but in addition to the 12 week.

Sirzy · 24/05/2011 12:15

Is there a reason she hasn't had them yet?

I would give your HV a call and discuss the best approach. I can't see them all being done in that time but she should be able to arrange the ones most needed.

SummerRain · 24/05/2011 12:15

I thought i was bad with ds2... he was 7 months for his 4 month jabs and a year for his 6 month one Blush

I don't think they can do them much quicker than they other wise would but you might just be able to squeeze in the two combined jabs and they might fit the Hib/Men C in between them. Rough month for you though Grin

I wouldn't panic about the MMR.... most people I know choose to leave it til 15/16 months or later anyway

silverfrog · 24/05/2011 12:16

your ds1's school sent a lette rhome saying there is an outbreak in Europe, and that all children needed to be up to date with their jabs to travel?

isn't that a little outside their remit?

but that aside, what is the outbreak of? surely that is your first step.

secondly - why did you halt all jabs? has the reasoning behind that changed? are there any in particular you want to have/don't want to have?

lastly, I wouldn't give all that lot in the space of 5 weeks. but that is my personal opinion.

stillstanding · 24/05/2011 12:17

Lady, there is absolutely no point in panicking now. Your DD is fine. Just start her on the immunisation programme. (There have to be gaps between these various jabs, some are boosters etc so you won't be able to have all of them now.)

What was the outbreak? Assuming it is something your DS was immunised and doesn't have whatever it is then hopefully DD's exposure would be minimal in any case.

SummerRain · 24/05/2011 12:18

silverfrog.... sometimes when you have several kids these things slip behind.

With dd and ds1 I was in the gp's bang on time for all their jabs. With ds2 there was so much else going on I just kept forgetting to make the appointment. They rang me in the end Blush

AnnieLobeseder · 24/05/2011 12:20

My friend's 3yo DS has just caught measles from his French cousins. They thought he'd had his MMR but it's not noted down in his red book.

It's a very good idea to get her up to date. Don't worry about what she needs when; the surgery will figure that out for you.

silverfrog · 24/05/2011 12:21

no judgement form me, Summerrain - my dd2 is completely unvaccinated.

my point was more: if OP had a reason to halt jabs in the first place, then maybe she shoudl revisit that reason, and bear it in mind now?

I know how things can slip by when you have more than one Grin

frakyouveryverymuch · 24/05/2011 12:23

I suspect it's the measles outbreak they're referring to so priority is MMR.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 24/05/2011 12:27

I have 4 under 6.

She was due a jab, then we moved house so I forgot, then it was Christmas, so I forgot, then I had swine flu so I forgot, then I spent a week in hospital having lumbar punctures and MRI scans so I forgot. All the while DH was either at work or just managing to look after the kids :o

It's my fault, I just forgot about it all.

Oldest 2 kids are up to date, 2 yr old DS is behind on MMR and DD as mentioned, so taking them both tomorrow.

I can't find that letter now. It warned of a measles outbreak in Europe I think.

To conclude, are we in agreement that I need to have her MMR done as priority and maybe catch up with the other earlier ones when we get back?

OP posts:
frakyouveryverymuch · 24/05/2011 18:15

IMO yes as it's a measles outbreak.

whomovedmychocolate · 24/05/2011 18:24

All schools in England are apparently due to write to parents - we had our letters last week regarding the measles outbreak in mainland Europe. I'm told it's quite extensive and lots of kids are getting sick so they are concerned we will all bring it back from holidays (long incubation period) and make others sick. Nice.

I had to check DS's red book as well although we are up to date, but I couldn't blooming remember. Blush

You can have catch up jabs together mostly OP. But they tend to do them in fortnightly spurts round here (so you get MMR, then a fortnight later you have Hep c/men B can't remember the rest). I do know my friend had her child done and it took about two months to get them all up to date.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 24/05/2011 18:32

Right, I shall explain we are off abroad end of June and see what she suggests.
I am fully expecting a frosty reception as I am so far behind and there will be hundreds of kids waiting to get jabbed, always is, but my plan is to get there early.
She is usually brandishing the needle as you walk through the door.

whomovedmychocolate · 24/05/2011 19:52

Nah it'll be fine. They get extra funding I believe for 'catch ups' Wink

sneezecakesmum · 24/05/2011 21:57

I have also heard there is a measles outbreak in Europe, worse in France.

You are going to get some really black looks Lady, but I can see why it has happened! Hopefully the HV will advise on the most important ones.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 25/05/2011 17:59

Thanks for calming me down on this one ladies. :)

DS3 had his MMR and he is now up to date, despite him having his MMR a year late. Oops.

DD had MMR and Hib/MenC I think as nurse felt these were most important. I am to go back after holiday to complete her catch up of the Polio/Whooping cough/Tetanus combo one.

She wasn't funny with me either. Though she did get a sly 'she is rather behind' in but I let it go....
Flippin' eck, there is only one of me! :o I do my very best and a jolly good job if I do say so myself, though just not with remembering things!

sneezecakesmum · 25/05/2011 21:07

Err...you remember that little red book they gave you? Grin

Speaking as one who can't remember what illness my two have had I can definitely sympathise. I have a couple of those new baby books, you know, first lock of hair, first photo etc? Errr... both empty!!!

toughdecisions · 25/05/2011 21:17

Measles is at epidemic level on the continent.
