Salamol Easi-Breathe Inhaler via a spacer for 13 month old???

DS2, 13 months old, has today been prescribed Salamol Easi-Breather inhaler, with a spacer (Aero Chamber Plus - the one with teddy bears on).

Is there a knack to getting him to breathe in enough for it to automatically squirt out a dose? I cann't see how it will ever work! Is it ok to take the cover off and press the cannister bit it to give him a burst of the drug?

Take off the cover and press the canister. I couldn't get it to work through an aerochamber any other way.

I would go back and ask for the 'normal' ventolin. There is no way DS (18 months) could manage the easi-breathe.

thank you ladies. glad it is not only me that couldn't get it to work. seriously what were the designers thinking?!

My sister has had that one and it works fine for her as she doesnt use the spacer. Not sure how it would work with a spacer though!

We used to play trains when dd2 was that age and got her first inhalers and spacers. She would hake deep breath chuff-chuff sounds holding the spacer over her mouth and nose. When she got into the rhythm of the breaths then I would time the inhaler to coinside with her breaths. I would get her to lie down of the sofa with a pillow behind her head. She thought it was a game and didn't object.
I found the easy breath easier than the ventolin, but maybe that's because she used it more.
