This morning ds was taking his nap and there was a god almighty racket from some builders outside. It woke him up and scared him and he started going crazy. When i ran up to him he ws really screaming and he'd flipped onto his front and was really upset and shaking his head etc i took him into our room put him on the bed and sat beside him. He seemed to have calmed down and was starting to drift off again when the blody noise started again and he freaked out and fliped out of my arms and off the bed. Our bed isnt v high off the floor but he did get abump to the head and a bit of a fright. He threw up a little bit but since then hes ben fine, laughing, eating, drinking his milk etc

out of hours doc is takingages to phoneback tho and hes startibg to get sleepy cos its time for his nap-any advice? Can i let him take a sleep?

Sorry for all typos, thanks for advice

my kids have bumped their heads and ended up with egg sized lumps but never been sick. go with your gut feeling if you think hes not right nip him to a&e for a check up or go to the on call doc or phone nhs direct they are really good have phoned them a few times in a panic

I went on a first aid course recently and they said to keep a really close eye on a child for 24 hours after a head bump. Pretty impossible (and not very healthy) to keep a child awake for 24 hours. I would let him sleep, but keep him with you if possible, or check on him frequently. This happens to kids all the time, I'm sure he'll be fine. HTH

sorry - read out of hours doc as nhs direct. Give them a call, might get back quicker than GP - number is 0845 46 47. Or A&E of you're really worried. Good luck.

Thanks all, dr finally called me back and asked whole spiel of questions. Like you said she wad keen that he doesnt nap for more than an hour at a time during the day today but as long as he's keeping food and milk down and he doesnt seem drowsy or unresponsive he should be fine. Its put my mind at rest but ds has just started crawling and something tells me he has a lot more bumps and spills ahead of him...eep. Thanks again
