DD has had a high fever since Sunday night which comes down with treatment (paracetamol suppositories/Ibuprofen) Shes now been asleep for 2 hours and her temp is rising slowly, so should I wake her to give her ibuprofen and BF? She seems so peaceful.

The walk in centre sent us to A&E last night as temp 40, and she was given the once over and a sample checked for water infection, but was advised to carry on treating at home, and to come back if no improvement by Friday.

Think I would be tempted to wake her, dose her up and feed her if it needs constant medication to keep it down. Hope she is better soon!.x

Thanks, I let her sleep a little longer then I woke her up. Now happily having a good feed. My gut instinct was torn as both could be logical!

Yes, I always do to keep the temperature down. If it gets too high it can be dangerous.

For an older child (over 2), I'd say leave if they seem to be peaceful, as sleep is the best thing for them. However, very young babies can deteriorate quickly and easily dehydrate if they have a high fever. So, in my opinion, you did the right thing. I hope she picks up soon

If you use a syringe and go slowly and carefully you may be able to get her to take it without waking. Dd1 could do this reliably, dd2 about 50/50, and ds always woke up.

Thank you for all your help.

The fever went overnight, and while shes not 100% she is much better.

Cheers
