when does it start to become serious? She is so thirsty and will drink a whole cup right down if you let her. I'm literally wrestling the cup off her while trying to give her sips an she is so upset when I take it off her. 20 minutes later it comes back up.

Syringe 5ml at a time, small amounts regularly.

Hope she's better soon. DS started throwing up Sunday night and has only today managed to get out of bed, theres a horrible bug going around.

When did this start?

The only problem with not being able to keep water down is that she will dehydrated very quickly and then it can get serious. if its been a couple of days i would take her to the gp. they can give medicine to stop them being sick but they may have other ideas too.

Apart from being sick, what else is wrong? does she have a temp? a rash? is she lethargic?

supergreenuk · 18/05/2011 09:44

We are now giving her water on a tea spoon. Not sure why it didn't occur to me sooner. Rubbish.

It started yesterday about 6 am so it really has only been 16 hours.

She is sleepy, lethargic with only a little bit of a raised temperature. No other symptoms so far.

Sounds like a viral infection. Giving her small sips on a teaspoon is the best thing to get fluids into her.

You need to keep watch for signs of dehydration - not weeing/strong smelling urine when she does.

You can buy dioralyte (sp?) from the chemist which is good for keeping them hydrated.

Could you also try a lolly or ice pop as that will take longer to go in? Hope she recovers soon

jellyvodkas · 18/05/2011 09:55

Get her to a doctor later today unless her vomiting settles down.. Can anyone get you some Deoralite sachets... Sugar& salt rehydration powder for babe.
She may need to go on I.V fluids if it doesnt stop. If she is lethargic that is of some concern. ...Babies/toddlers can dehydrate very quickly.
My 10 yr old DS has sickness /diarrhoes and 2nd day off school. But he is drinking and keeping it down...less concern.
Get baby looked at today.
Wishing you luck and hope she is better very soon. Always see a Doc if any worries with a little one.

Thanks. She has slept a lot today. She hasn't been sick since about 10 am. All teaspoons of water have stayed down and she even managed a few teaspoons of cuppa soup without it coming back.

FYI she is perfectly well today. The same however cannot be said for DH and I.

Oh dear. Glad DD is better though.

Hope you're both better soon.
