Hi, my DD (13) has to have her adenoids out in July and the school have said that if she's well enough, they'll send home homework for her - she has to have a week off - anyone's DC's had this operation that can tell me if they're in any fit state to think about homework afterwards??! Do they recover fairly quickly; were they very sore? Thanks.

My son had his adenoids out at 3 years 6 months. He was home within 4 hours of the op and was full of beans in the afternoon.

It is not a major op and I am sure your dd will be fit to do homework.

Hiya, my DD(5) had her tonsils out about 7 weeks ago now, and for the first 4-5 days she tired easily, was in pain and wouldnt eat much and wasnt up for much more than TLC, she had to have 2 weeks off school, by second week she was on her way to being back to normal, and now you would never know!!
I think just adenoids is slightly quicker healing than tonsils, and I also have a friend with a DD (12) who recovered fairly quickly from an adenoid op, I would avoid hmwk and let her rest though, its only a week off school, she needs to chill!
Good luck, she will be fine and so wil you! ;-) xxx

My Ds had them removed and 2nd lot of grommets inserted when he was 7 . Week off school , standard after this procedure, home same day - absolutely fine .

Does she need homework in July ? Surely they will be winding down ? in any case she should be fine to do it .

Thanks very much for your replies - all helpful. Thanks for your advice, Nutty AND your reassurance!!!! Yes, agree is only a week, but I suppose I could just say send it home and I'll "play it by ear"? Hope all of your DC's are much better now they've had the procedure. Smile

DD had to have two weeks off school, but it was more that the risk of infection is high than anything else. She was low for a few days but nothing that paracetamol couldn't sort out. I hope it goes well.

Thank you, LilRed. Hope your DD is okay now. Smile
