Any experience of chiropractor or cranial osteopath for silent reflux?

My 6 week old has just been diagnosed with silent reflux. One of my friends just suggested a chiropractor would help and then someone else suggested a cranial osteopath - does anyone have any advice/ experience of either or opinion on which would be most effective? Thanks for any help.

Sorry to hear you lo has been diagnosed with silent reflux. I took my DD (5mths) to a co and at the first session I wasn't really sure what the issue was. When she came back from the first session she was really different, completely relaxed for a while, but next day was bad again. I took her to the next app't and the same thing happened but for longer. Around that time my DD also then got diagnosed with silent reflux (before it had been could it be food allergy/lactose intolerance etc) and she was also started on med's as well. The CO definitely seemed to help for sure, whether it would have been enough to have worked on it's own I can't say and also it was a little difficult as the CO who did the work on my DD wasn't really in work as she had suddenly lost her spouse and came in especially to work on DD and also didn't charge so I didn't feel I could ask for more sessions after.

I know a lot of people on here have various experiences of CO and silent reflux and I'm sure you'll get lots of responses.

Good luck xxx

Hello, we went to see a cranial osteopath for my DD's colic, I was willing to do and pay anything to help the situation and in my opinion it was a silly waste of £50, my husband and I came out laughing because the man didn't even touch her but claimed he could feel the pressure and then she filled her nappy enormously he claimed it was him releasing the pressure (without even touching her) that had caused it. I was baffled to be honest and had to stifle giggles thoughout.

For the silent reflux have you been prescribed ranitidine? to reduce the stomach acid? That helped my DS.

Cranial Osteopathy/Craniosacral therapy does not have biological plausibility to treat any condition and fair trials have shown it to be no more effective than placebo.

Chiropractic manipulation has a reasonable evidence base for lower back problems but certainly not for silent reflux.
And of course it has risks.

You might find this advice helpful.

DBennett - would you be able to link to the study or whatever that shows it has no plausibility? I am trying to decide about it a thte moment.

OP, bot hmy DDs had refulx (nont silent) and were treatedby a CO. DD1 responded really well and there was a huge difference in her. DD2 was treated, and also for colic, but did not respond. DD1 is currently having CO and chiro for sleeping issues, same lady.

I would say worth a try if you can afford it. Get someone experienced with babies. Good luck!

Good open source summary can be found [http://faculty.une.edu/com/jnorton/BCOHTAassessment.pdf here].

I'd use the word thorough.

But long is good too!
