Spots on 4 yr old DS - Doc says not CPox....

Hi there.

My DS is 4.11. He had Chickenpox over Easter but recovered quickly. Tonight I took him to swimming after school and when I was getting him undressed found he had lots of red spots. Only one, on his arm, has a 'head' of any kind on it, but there are three under his head which he says hurt, and are like big, hard blisters. Took him doc this evening. Doc says it's not CPox because the red ones sort of blanch, even though they are raised. He agreed with me about the ones that are on his head, and how they are different. However, he says he isn't sure what they are, poss virus (though not like a NSV rash AT ALL), allergy or something else. Tonight he hascomedown from bed crying and saying the ones on his head really hurt, despite Piriton, (doc's orders) and Ibuprofen. I put Calamine Lotion on him and tucked him back in, but he's not settling.Has anybody any ideas?

TIA

Shingles?

Could be an allergy I guess. More likely to be a virus though - viral rashes are very odd and do come and go. Does it itch? I get a hard lump rash whenever I come into contact with a child with chickenpox even though I've had it twice. Takes ages to go - a week at least. And I feel run down when I get it.

But there's no specific diagnosis I could get from the GP. He just said 'painkillers and keep and eye on it'. Hmm

Sorry that's not much bloody help is it, but I bet it will go. You could try a cool bath and soaking his head - it might make him feel better (won't help the rash but won't hurt it either. I convinced DS he felt better with a rash on the head by showering his head. Good luck. :)

children can get shingles too - ds got them at the age of 3. A girl in dd's class at school has had them twice (she is 7)

Could he have been bitten by something? I'd not be happy about the pain, if he can't settle or starts running a fever, don't hesitate to take him to the out of hours.

Mystery though...poor thing.

My dd has molluscum - I initially thought that was chicken pox. ( wish it was - I hate it) . I would have thought the Gp would have diagnosed it if it was though, so you may be ok. Post-viral rash?

Hello all.

More spots have come out overnight and they are still bothering him, so it's back to GP this morning. Ugh...
