blisters turning into huge weeping scabs - any ideas?

DD (13 months) had a large blister on the back of her ankle a couple of weeks' ago. This burst and left a red-raw patch which then scabbed and has since healed. I put it down to the fact that she keeps putting her older sister's shoes on and walking about, so thought she'd rubbed it and caused a blister. A few days' ago, I noticed another raw patch on her back and this is now a horrible weeping scab about 4cm across. On Friday morning, I saw a little blister close to this large sore and by the afternoon it too had turned into a raw patch, and is now a nasty scab as well. I took her to docs Friday eve and he said he had no idea what it is but prescribed Erythromycin (anti-biotic). She had also been pulling her ears about that day, so he looked in them and said she had an ear infection as well (she'd had a cold that started last weekend) Apart from being a bit grumpy, she doesn't seem ill, is eating normally and has no temperature.
Am going to go back to doctor tomorrow and see our usual GP, but any ideas what this is? Have been looking on internet and can't find anything that really fits. She does get a bit of eczema so don't know if this is some weird form of that. Help appreciated!

Could it be impetigo?

RainbowShite · 15/05/2011 20:25

Sounds like impetigo to me.

I came to say... Impetigo. Horrible and very easily spread, but also easily treated.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I thought of impetigo, but the scabs don't have the yellow crusting and neither DD1 nor us have got it. Also, surely the doctor should have recognised it if it were?

Could it be hand foot and mouth? this usually has blisters on the feet, or either side, palms of the hand, in and out of the mouth, and spots on the bottom.

Impetigo i'm sure, dd1 had it that started on an elbow graze then spread was awful, ended up on 2 different antibiotics for a month.
