Abdominal Pain in DS

DS (13yrs) has had a stomach ache for 6 days now with no other symptoms. Took him to GP on day 2 who advised us to go back if no improvement or worsening. Returned on day 4 and GP sent us to hospital, to query appendicitis.

After through examination by 2 different doctors, blood test, urine test etc etc we were sent home, advised to take paracetamol/ibuprofen as necessary, and "open access" to assessment unit for 2 days.

Doctors asked DS to rate the pain - he gave it 8/10. Having had 3 days off school, he went back on Friday, still in pain. Rating has steadily increased today, and is now 12/10. Phoned assessment unit (when at 10/10) this afternoon who advised pain relief.

Not actually sure why I am posting, as I realise it is a watching and waiting game. But feeling very stressed! Any hints/ideas? He is not (yet) doubled up in pain - but has spent most of day on settee.

Depending on how much of a drama king (?) he is I'd be thinking about going to A & E as it's getting worse.
If dd1 was like that I'd definitely take her (she doesn't tell me if something hurts unles it's really bad because she hates making a fuss). With dd2 she ofen is in "agonising pain" (until she sees a friend then runs off and plays forgetting any pain) so I wouldn't be doing anything other than observing her.
Is he able to sleep through it?

Not a drama king (though DS2 fulfills that role!). Since this started he has slept, but woken up several times in the night with the pain. Also snoozing in day time.

Has gone to bed so will listen amd worry

If you still have open access tomorrow, and it is no better/worse in the morning then I would go back to the assessment unit.

If it was that bad you'd know, he'd be doubled over in pain.

Take him back to be safe but I wouldn't worry.

Thanks for comments....took DS back at the weekend, and he was admitted for observation for 1 night. Now home and no change. We are trying to get him a bit more mobile as he has spent a lot of time lying in bed or on the settee - not sure if this is exacerbating the pain.

He has now had 2 blood tests in the space of 4 days, the thing they are most interested in is his white blood cell count. Both times this has been within normal limits, but am not sure if an increase in this time has been considered. He was 7.0 last week and now 7.9.....?
