9m old with barking cough and vomiting

9m DD has had a barking cough (she sounds like a seal) all day, and has been very fretful: she got almost hysterical this afternoon when we were out, and has been very clingy all day (fairly but not totally out of character). She went to bed as normal this evening, but after about 30mins sleep she had a huge coughing fit - I went up to her and found her in a (small) puddle of vomit, still coughing. When I picked her up to comfort her being cleaning her up she was sick a few more times. I cleaned her up and she took another BF and has gone back to sleep.

Should I worry? We're leaving her with her grandparents for the first time ever tomorrow night and I'm already a little nervous about that (she's not great at taking expressed milk and, when she gets into a state, needs me to calm her down) and it'll be ten times worse if she's ill. DH is still at work and my mum's out for the evening so don't really have anyone I trust to call.

Thanks.

Sounds like croup. I would call ooh gp.

Is she teething? I have a 21 month old who coughed so hard she was sick today and this is fairly normal when she is teething.

Barking cough is a classic symptom of croup. Please call ooh gp. She is too little to not do anything.

I agree on the croup thoughts. Ring the out of hours gp now.

Thanks - left a message and she's calling me back within the hour.

Hope she's ok. I wouldn't leave her with the GPs TBH.

Doctor says just to keep an eye on her and bring her in if she develops a temperature or a rash. Thanks for all your help :)

Also watch out for breathing difficulties like sucking in of chest / stomach when breathing or bad wheezing, croup can get better fine on it's own but can also go the other way sometimes.

DS used to get croup. Steam really helps to alleviate the cough.
