A bad back; how does it feel?

DD (13) has a bad back; the way she describes it is just below her neck to just above her bum the spine is painful.

When I have a bad back it's in a small part of my back and it radiated all around that area and sometimes into my leg (sciatica)

Is what DD has just another type (that I haven't had) or is it something else?

Could it be growing pains, so painful bones, rather than muscular, which is what the small of your back and sciatica is? Have you had her seen at the dr?

She had about 4/6 hours of it one day in the holiday then was sent home from school with it yesterday.

So I'm not sure it's at 'see the GP' stage; as I got slammed last year for making a fuss - so I am a bit undecided

I'd take any of mine to the GP if they were sent home for back ache. I've had pain from scoliosis since having DS1 16 years ago, so I wouldn't let anyone feel I was time-wasting.
It's not something I'd be prepared to 'wait and see' with I'm afraid.

Made an appointment - the receptionist said I was being silly even considering not making an appointment

I know things have improved over the last twenty or so years since I was a teenager but I had a painful back in my teens and it was misdiagnosed as spondilolisthesis (sp?) In my late 20s it was actually diagnosed and turned out to be a bulging/slipped disc but teens don't get slipped discs do they! It wasn't until the disc burst and I had an MRI scan due to being unable to walk that it was finally 'officially' diagnosed and I could have an operation. So teens can get bad backs too.
It is definitely worth discussing it with your GP.

I've 'just' been diagnosed with hypermobility so I'm a bit 'focused' atm plus DD had all that neurological stuff last year which has left me jumpy

She has damaged her middle back & it's a spasm

No games, lifting, carrying school bags but her ballroom dancing is OK as she is straight (not too sure about that Wink)

Glad it's a temporary thing. Hope recovery is swift!
