Onset of chicken pox?

Hello, just wondered if anyone could tell me what the onset of chicken pox was like for their dc (ie the bit before the spots). DS' friend (who he spends lots of time with) has it, and ds is currently curled up on sofa looking v sorry for himself, hasn't eaten his breakfast (most unusual) and says he feels a bit sick. So I'm wondering if this is it starting? I have to work tomorrow and as I'm a teacher it's nice to give them notice so they can get supply. Is he likely to be covered in spots tomorrow is what I'm asking I suppose!

possibly, how long ago did he have contact with hsi friend and at what stage ?

ds2 had c pox, and at the same time, dd was really ill for 4 days, raging temperature, couldn't sleep, couldn't eat, cried constantly. took her to doc who said almost certainly c pox, but it was another 2 weeks later she got the spots (we're on day 10 now!)

Possibly, both the dd's were pretty crabby just before the spots came out.

Ds had contact with friend last wednesday, friend's spots appeared on Sunday. Lots of contact in week leading up to that too.

With my daughter it was just the spots, no temperature, no crankiness, nothing. I first wondered whether it really was the CP, but GP had confirmed (and several kids in her nursery came out with it on the same day)

What you describe could be the onset, or it could be a normal cold.

DS was off his food for a couple of days before.

But no temp or crankiness. He had spots and no appetite but nothing else.

Then ate like a horse for a fortnight.

Oh dear, dd now throwing up a lot and bad nappies too. Presumably this rules out cp and makes a straightforward tummy bug (which maybe hasn't affected ds as much - he's just off his food not sick) more likely?

They are usually only infectious 1-2 days before the spots appear, I think. So it is unlikely your ds will have contracted it from him if he last saw his friend 4 days before the spots started.

Hope that both your dcs are better soon.
