Blood in Wee??

My son is nearly 6 years old and back in August while I was giving him a shower he had his usual wee in the shower (yuck) and I noticed that it was red .... this was not the first time it happened as a couple of days before he did tell me that his wee was a different colour but at the time I laughed it off.

Since then he has had the same thing on and off and a couple of months ago I took him to the doctor. He did a urine sample there and we were told that there was blood in it when they 'dipped' it and they sent it away but that came back ok. A week later we took him back and he was clear.

Since then however, we have had what seems to be more frequent happenings of blood in his wee and I will be making another doctors appointment for him but I just dont know what it is!!

He is a boy who never leaves his penis alone and just recently I did catch him having a wee and holding the end of his penis allowing the wee to collect at the end.

Anyone got any advice???

He could have a sore patch/cut inside his foreskin from all the fiddling I suppose. Have you had a look or asked him whether he's sore at all?

But I have to say, the doctor is the right place to go with blood in wee. Do not google, just go back to the dr.

I doubt whether a scratch inside the foreskin would bleed in such a noticeable way and also not on several previous occasions.

I think its back to the GP. Blood in the urine withougt infection can mean a kidney problem. Ask your GP to take his blood pressure too.

Don't suppose he eats a lot of beetroot does he? This can make your wee an alarming red colour. If he's not a beetroot eater then I agree - back to the GP with him!

Hi there ... thanks for your replies.

No he doesnt eat beetroot except maybe once or twice when we've had a BBQ :)

The doctor had a look at his penis when we were there last and she did give him some antibiotic cream to put on the end as she said it was a little red but Im sure that was more to do with his fiddling with it rather than any infection, which was confirmed really when the test came back ok.

It does seem to be at the end of day when its noticed more.

He has an appointment this afternoon......
