Hi all,

I have one DD, who will be 18 weeks old tomorrow. I was looking for some advise really, as I don't want to push it with the doctors and be labelled a paranoid parent, as this is my first baby I'm not sure what to do.

Basically DD is 18 weeks tomorrow, she has had diarrhea since the 26th April... really watery and 'stringy' it also smells quite bad, anyway after a day or two I took her to doctors, who said some people's poo is runny and other's isn't - fair enough if her poo had always been like this, but it hasn't I know what is 'normal' for her if you see what I mean? anyway after a bit of pushing from me, he sent a stool sample off (this was on the 28th April) with bank holidays etc. they've only just got the results back today, and told me everything is completely normal... I'm not convinced. I asked to see a doctor and the lady on reception said I may be better speaking to the health visitor. The only problem being the drop in sessions in my area is one the last Thursday of the month - therefore I will have to wait until 26th May to see health visitor!

Basically what would you do? would you push to see the doctor, wait to see the health visitor, or just assume this is 'normal' for DD? any advice gratefully received.

Bit more info...DD isn't weaned yet, she is formula fed, SMA, which she has had since two days old (long story, milk never came in, so was forced to formula feed) so nothing has changed food wise that would cause problems.

did she have a tummy upset before the diarrhoea started? She could have a temporary lactose intolerance due to that. Using a lactose free milk or adding colief to her current milk could help - I'd go back to the doctor and see if you can get one or the other prescribed

I know how you feel my ds has had this for the last 5 weeks, his weight is only on 2nd centile but doctors etc dont seem thst worried, his poo has a very distinct smell too, a bit vinegary if that makes sense, his stool sample was also normal. We are referred to paediatrician for another problem so will discuss then, our health visitor has also referred us to a dietician as gp thought it might be a milk allergy (we too are on Formula due to tongue tie / inability to latch on) ask your HV to refer you to dietician or paedistrician, it is important so stand your ground... Good luck, hope you (& we) get some answers soon x
