Narrow feet....

My DS1 has very narrow feet (b/c) fitting, I just wondered if anyone out there has had experience of this and what they did? I'm being told that there aren't shoes narrow enough to fit him properly. Have contacted HV to ask if she can help and she's been trying to get through to podiatry for a week now but apparently having no luck. It's all getting to be a bit of a nightmare!

How old is your DS? Does he need to wear shoes, yet? ie just walking?

If not, please wait for the pods appt, putting ill-fitting shoes on him will not help him at all IMO.

sorry, posted too soon Blush

DS1 was a 'c' fitting, we used to have sticky backed thick wadding cut to shape by the pods to make his shoes fit, and wearing boots instead of shoes may help, as they are secured around the ankle, not so much across the width of his foot.

you can get fab Converse boots in smaller sizes Smile

Dd3 has v narrow and flat feet we have been able to get round the problem by buying Ecco or Ricosta shoes, the insole can be removed and another one put underneath, so you still get the breathable good quality insole but the foot is raised and the shoe fits better.

Good luckSmile

Thanks both, he's nearly 4, and it seems his feet are just getting narrower and narrower! We've just bought some Ecco shoes and they've given him horrendous blisters after just an hour, it's so bad, I'm not sure I want to put them on him again.

Well get my HV to pursue podiatry though, wasn't sure when narrow feet became a health issue if that makes sense!

I can't offer any advice but my mum is a 9.5AA and has always had a nightmare with shoes. She used to go to the Small & Tall shoe shop (now closed i think) in London or Lilley & Skinner in London. Now she uses a small independent based on a farm in Surrey Confused but i'm not sure they do childrens shoes

CrispyTheCrisp · 07/05/2011 19:55

I have just googled and i think it is this place but only adults i'm afraid. There may be childrens equivalents though

Thanks CTC! Will check it out, have been trying to find places like that!

I'm pretty sure you can go to a Clarkes shop or any independent shoe retailer that sells Startrite and with the width fitting, they can order made to measure shoes. I was a b/c growing up and my shoes were made to order by Startrite.

TopsysMum · 11/05/2011 22:38

I've not had that service offered Mockingbird, might be worth trying. The whole thing is turning into a nightmare especially as the medical professionals are now starting to say that they might not be able to help either. So who can????!!!!

TopsysMum

do not despair!

pods might not be able to change your DS's feet, but they will be able to advise on the best way forward from now on.

do you have an appointment with them now?
