Toe-walking 17mo

Ds is 17mo, he has been walking since he was 10.5mo. In the past few days, I have noticed him starting to walk on his tip toes. Last night it appeared to be just one foot, so we thought perhaps he'd twisted his ankle or something. He wasn't doing it this morning, but this afternoon is doing it again, but on both feet.

He's not doing it all the time, and when he runs, he is putting his heel down.

Any advice? He's not in any pain, and I have manipulated his foot about a bit, he didn't seem to wince or anything, he just thought I was tickling him.

Funnily, my little sister used to do this. When she was around 2, she would curl her toes under and walk on them like a little ballerina! No one ever knew why or how she did it lol, but she was perfectly fine. I think she'd just discovered that she could do it and made the most of it! I expect it's the same with your boy if he doesn't seem to be in any pain :)

It's just started all of a sudden. I think because his sister had problems with her hips when she was born, I am programmed to wildly freak out over anything in the lower limb arena Grin

That's understandable, and if you are really concerned, see the doc, but it's probably nothing, children do strange things that adults can't understand a lot of the time!

yep, my DD did this - just because she could! She stopped after a while...don't worry!

Ds' hips were scanned until he was 8 months old, when he was discharged, so it shouldn't be that. I have googled it (!) and hip issues don't seem to be connected

Will try and stop freaking out and just see how it goes over the next week or so.

A bit later, she did the exaggerated blinking, which was a bit freaky. Didn't mean anything was wrong with her eyes, she just realised she could blink and did it a lot!

Tante - that made me spit my tea all over my keyboard Grin

My dd is currently doing the 'closing one eye and squinting a lot' trick.

Bloody kids, they've been sent to drive me round the bend.

DD2 does this, and has hypomobility and autism. BUT its not to freak you out about those, but just to say if it continues you might want to ask GP for physio refferal as we have been told if DD2 continues to do this, she will shorten her tendons and need splints.
However in the meantime she has been recomended strong heavy boots to keep her feet flatter, seems to be working Grin
