DS's hair is very blonde, practically white blonde. Though he's a decent covering of it now it's not very thick and I'm a bit concerned about him catching the sun on his scalp - particularly as we're off to the Algarve on Sat so lots of outdoor time etc.

We've been working on hat-wearing for a while now: oooh look! this hat has Thomas on it, Mummy/daddy has a hat on, hats are brilliant, me & Dh wearing hats round house, ninja-style sneaking hat on his head when engrossed in playing etc etc. The boy will not be persuaded and the longest any hat has stayed on his head is about 1.5 minutes. Stubborn little... Grin

In the recent sunny spell often resorted to smearing creamy factor 50 into his hair. Not pleasant and not entirely sure it gets properly into the scalp.

Anyone know of anything more 'watery' that I could spray on? Or any other solutions/tips?

Obviously will attempt to keep him in shade as much as poss, but when a toddler wants to toddle places, places must be toddled to and things examined in great detail on the way!

Ds is 17 months and the same!

I have a bandana for him which he keeps on better. I put suntan lotion on his scalp (his hair is very fine!) then the bandana with a hat on top!

if you really want him to wear his hat then tell him he can't go outside without it on, and take him back in every time he takes it off. he will soon wear his hat.

could be worth trying in the algarve at least although you might be less lacking in motivation in the UK when it's not as hot

Argh. So no mega super instant fine mist factor 50 spray for toddler hair in existence then...? Damn. Double damn.

You're right merci - I have not the patience for the 'hat-or-no-play' solution, partic as we are going on hol on sat so easy life all the way or the next week or so! Neither do I think that DS will take to a bandana sirzy - will try but the little terror will see straight through it.

Thanks though!

I has a hat refuser- sam age- really blonde and not much of it! I shopped around for a had with straps- and found one in M&S- same the cheaper shops couldnt provide but hey ho. He made attempts to remove it at first but the velcro held firm and he gave up. He is really used to it now and wares it no problem.

Wears - is the correct spelling! sorry back to primary school.

Boots had some 'invisible' spray on high factor sunscreen the other day. I got a Soltan one (factor 30 I think) but there were some other brands with similar. It certainly looks light and watery enough just to spray on without too much rubbing.

You'll just have to resort to following him around with a parasol Grin

He'd like that POB - probably like me to peel his grapes too Grin.

Will seek out the Velcro hat and try the soltan stuff. Ta muchly.
