Grainey Poo!

I wondered if anyone can put my mind at rest please. My 2yr old (boy) poo's once a day however when I am washing him I notice what I can only decribe as very small bits of sand through it. This sand' sticks to his skin but does come off.
Do you think he is deficient in anything? He is a sturdy guy and has a good appetite but I might be missing something.
All advice most welcome. Thank you.

Very good BluddyMoFo, that made me laugh!

He probably did though. Has he been going to playgrounds with sand, or playing with sand at nursery? Probably.

I know at least one of my children had this at intervals, I think I was slacker than you and ignored it, and it went away in due course.

Thanks for responding. He does go to playgrounds but he gave up eating sand about 8 months ago..
He does get this from time to time and like you I have ignored it in the past but just thought I'd ask if anyone else had experience of it. It's a funny one but it doesn't seem to bother him.

Weetabix for breakfast? I seem to remember this had a similar effect on one of my DCs, it was just the tiny bits of fibre or whatever Weetabix is made of.

gruber · 04/05/2011 14:57

Completely normal. The (nearly) 2 yr old I look after also produces these, like MoFo says just as if they've eaten sand! However we don't have a sandpit & def hadn't been playing in one...

Best way to wash it off is with shower hose- wipes are useless!

Thank you for your responses and advice.

weetabix or other wholegrain cereals?
mine does this if he had apricot wheats as snack.
I use a flannel and water for that. wipes are useless for this kind of thing.

DS3 (2) has just started getting grainy poo since starting eating weetabix - thanks all for pointing that out!!

fartingfran · 04/05/2011 22:28

Wholemeal bread or Weetabix. I forgot about this when I started weaning DC2 and had a couple of days of frustratedly wiping at all the little bits before remembering that was the trouble.

Pixieonthemoor · 07/05/2011 15:12

My nearly 3 yr old ds had this the other day. Spoke to his nursery and they confirmed they had caught him snacking.....on sand!! Had to stand in the bath and have warm water poured over the area to rinse it away and a quick go around with a flannel as well.

Bickies · 07/05/2011 20:00

Thank you and I appreciate all your responses but he actually doesn't eat weetabix or much brown bread however he has been drinking more than his usual amount of pure orange juice lately.
Could that be doing it??
Thanks, Bickies.
