Cradle Cap

FanjoForTheMusic · 29/04/2011 09:49

I'm assuming it's cradle cap - large thick flakes of yellowy skin.

Any suggestions for the best way to deal with this in a baby who has LOADS of hair? She doesn't like having her head touched, and the oil/soft brush method doesn't really work because a brush won't go through her hair to her scalp.

If I stop using shampoo will it go on its own, or should I go the other way and get some Dentinox?

Mum of 3 here! I went all hippy with first two and tried olive oil etc to no avail. However admitted defeat and swear by dentinox. My 8 week old looks like jedward and I have used it once a week since birth and no cradle cap at all plus she smells of roses. Use the dentinox shampoo evrey bath till it clears and then once a week. Cradle cap can stink and it looks so yucky. And try not to pick

FanjoForTheMusic · 29/04/2011 10:32

Thank you! Not a hope of picking, she hates me even trying to get the flakes out of the ends of her hair, never mind off her scalp.

She's 10 months, so I think perhaps it would have cleared on its own by now if it was going to.

it would and the dentinox must be mild as my other 2 had excema and this never irritated. poor wee lamb

Head and shoulders and a nitty gritty nit comb, a worth while investment anyway.

pop to the GP in case it's infected

FanjoForTheMusic · 30/04/2011 19:49

Thanks for the posts. I don't think it's infected, she doesn't scratch it, and it isn't red at all, just yellow and flaky.

Have started using Dentinox, will see what happens. Bit scared of using the nit comb, in case I scratch her scalp.

if you oiled it and left it say 20 mins then shampooed without brushing/combing that might shift it a bit

(I have experience, can you tell? )

NB sweet almond oil

FanjoForTheMusic · 01/05/2011 18:00

Cheers! Would olive oil do anything without brushing, do you think? Only I have that in in the house, rather than buying sweet almond oil.
Perhaps I should try all the tips one after the other, and have the most exemplary baby scalp ever. Grin

If you have vaseline in the house cake it on and leave overnight, wash hair in the morning. Worked a treat for my 2, almond oil didn't.
