my ds is nearly 13 weeks old, he has been lethargic and whimpering all day and just not his usual self. He has a temp of 38, has had 2 doses of calpol but temp has just dipped then gone back up. He is ebf and still feeding regularly, but his poos have been v odd - bright yellow, curdled and stringy, kind of like scrambled egg! I have a gp's appt in an hour, but the worry til then is driving me mad!

Hello, I didn't want your post to unanswered although I don't have anything super helpful to post! I would imagine it's just a virus but going to the doctors is a good idea just to put your mind at rest. I have an older toddler who has had various viruses recently which have included upset stomaches but I know how worrying it can be, especially when they're small.

I would recommend offering BF a little more often to keep him hydrated. Especially when it's warm as your milk will be more watery.

started to write a post to tell you to get him checked out asap, but see you've already gone to the GP.. hope all is well with your DS. Fever, lethargy and whimpering are signs of meningitis - reallly hope it's nothing as sinister

Thank you both, gp has checked him over thoroughly and just prescribed paracetamol, so have given him more and he is asleep now, has fed and had another dirty nappy.

He has slept a lot today - can the paracetamol have this effect?

Am beside myself with worry even though gp reassured us...

If you are concerned you can phone NHS direct or go to A & E if his temperature doesn't drop after the Calpol.

Yes, do keep a close eye and keep the NHS number handy. Chances of something really serious are slim, but it does happen (I can testify to that) - so always better safe than sorry

FWIW it's the whimpering bit in your post that gave me the shivers... on the other hand he's still feeding at that's a good sign. It's hard when they're ill - they never tell you that in the job description ....

hope he's better soon
