Hi

Not sure if this is the right place to put this but hoping for a bit of advice.

DD is 8mths old and loves her sleep. She sleeps from 8-7 every night and can do 9.30-11.30 in the morning and 1:30 - 4:15 in the afternoon, is this too much? She has a bit of a flat head at the back and am concerned she is having too much sleep as another MNer started a thread saying basically babies with flat heads are being let down by their parents.

If we go out and about she will be awake a lot more looking at everything etc but when we are at home she falls into this routine. If I try and keep her up and see when she wants to sleep she ends up falling asleep on the floor amongst her toys at these sort of times. So alternate between leaving her up and putting her down and she sleeps the same regardless.

I want to enjoy the fact she loves her sleep as I think it can't be too long till she is waking a lot more but am concerned by the MNer's comments and my HV utter look of shock and surprise when I told her.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

As she is sleeping so well at night, I would try and reduce the day sleeps at bit, no more than two hours each, as it does seem like a lot during the day.

Thank you for your reply,

Have tried a couple of times in the last couple of days and she has been really grumpy before bed but I shall persevere and go with what she wants!

tbh If shes otherwise well, alert, plays and everyone is happy with her development just let her sleep and enjoy the peace. I can't see why anyone would want to wake a baby during the day just to have her awake an hour or two longer when she is grumpy and tired. [buconfused]
Babies are individuals, some are short sleepers and some like their sleep. Sleep is where babies process information, learn to assimilate their understanding of the world, and is very important to development and wellbeing. Believe me it won't last!
Enjoy the peace, not many MNs are as lucky as you.

df's baby used to sleep 7am-9pm and then 12-3pm every day up until he was 18 months.

My son sleeps to a similar pattern at 11 months. Today he's ill and has slept about 22 out of 24 hours (poor thing). I let him be as he's a happy normal baby. In fact I've learnt to enjoy games of tennis in the morning or lunch out while he's unconcious in the buggy!

Two out of my three DCs had a very similar sleep pattern to your DD's for a while.

They're adults now and both still love their sleep! Make the most of it because it probably won't last very long [busmile]
