Antibiotics - format?

DD, 6.5, had a week long course of antibiotics three weeks ago for an infection that the doctor said at the time was a Strep B. After she had finished the course of antibiotics the infection recurred, and a second, different, doctor prescribed a lab analysis and more of the same antibiotics. The lab analysis has come back as a Staphylococcus Aureus.

Anyway, DD is about to come to the end of the second course of antibiotics and I fear the infection may recur as it doesn't seem to have cleared up completely. My question is this: is it really necessary for the antibiotics to be in liquid form, to be stored in the refrigerator and to be taken three times a day? She is not ill and the antibiotics keep us almost housebound.

Im assuming the antibiotics is liquid due to your dd being young. The other option I guess is tablets but not all kids at 6 can swollol tablets without panicking.. can yours..? if she can then I guess you should ask your gp for them in tablet form..

I would say they tell you to keep them refrigerate for a reason as well as taking 3 times a day..

You say they keep you almost housebound, the morning and night ones should be easy.. the middle one is the one I assume you are having probs with.? how about taking a cool bag out with you and keeping an ice pack with them.?

or whats stopping you giving them at breakfast, dinner/tea and then before bed or wake her in the night to give them..?

We live in central Paris so carting a cool bag round isn't really an option (we go everywhere on foot/by public transport). We also eat out a lot so the evening dose is a problem as well as the midday one. Morning is the only easy dose to manage.

She manages tablets a lot better than liquid, so I shall ask for tablets next time.

Thanks Smile
