Try Emla patch. Yes, you can use them-check the leaflet for when to put them on (usually 1-1.5 hr before, I think).

DS was in hospital last year, age 17 months and had to have blood tests, canulas and IV drugs. They always used Emla first. Takes a while to work though.

Will it completely numb the area?? I don't want to promise her it will and then it doesn't and she won't trust me at all.

I think it depends on the kind of injection but DS had MMR booster and some other combined vaccine few months ago and told he didn't feel anything.

OnlyWantsOne · 19/04/2011 20:16

Oh thats good. Why doesnt everyone use it??

My DD is behin on her vaccines because I can't handle taking her. I need a solution. Could I use it for my baby too?

Where do I get it from??

cream was used by hospital on dd2 and it caused a severe burn on her skin....there was no time to check for an allergic reaction first Sad so I defo would not use it on a baby unless it was medically essential, and would only use it on a small child if I had time to do a tiny patch test first. the burn on DD was on the inside of her elbow, about 4 cm in diameter and it took a few weeks to heal.

winnybella · 19/04/2011 21:09

Here in France you get it from pharmacies so I'm guessing any chemist will stock them?

I used it on DD since she was 3 months old with no ill effects. The time you keep it on is shorter for babies.

BCBG was it Emla that they used? Sad for your DD

Yes it was. The hospital just cleaned it off when her skin reddened badly but seemed unconcerned ....so the next day I was horrified to see a blister develop, like you would get if you had burned yourself and not kept iced water on it, it was awful. showed GP who said yes, a burn, reaction to the cream. ER, that was it, and antibiotics to prevent topical infection. No idea how common or rare the allergy is.
