sickness bug

My DD is 11 mo. She has had a sickness bug since Thursday night and can't keep food down. We've been to the Docs twice, she's not dehydrated and we've been giving Dioralyte 5 ml at a time every 5 minutes. She's kept this down and I was told to wait 24 hours before giving milk or solids.

I gave 3 ounces of milk this morning, she brought this up and is sleeping again. No temp, quite cool. What would you advise in terms of the type of solids to start on when she wakes if she manages to keep clear fluid down?

soft fruit/veg to get her vitamins. Dairy will probably make her worse so I would lay off the milk until she feels better. soup is always good as long as not fatty - the other thing to avoid. Hope she feels better soon, poor little lamb - and you too

Thanks, finding it tough because I know I should steer away from dairy but she screams and screams for a bottle of milk. She's got to the point where she is refusing diluting juice and the rehydrate stuff. I did manage to convince her to have a wee bit of toast, she's sleeping again. Hopefully when she wakes she'll be thirsty enough for a drink of juice. Thanks.

You could try skimmed? My gp told me to get lactose free formula but my dd was only a baby then

managed to convince her to have some chicken soup. she's now cuddling me and i'm really hoping it stays down

starchy foods are normally recommended first e.g. pasta, rice, potatoes, bread/toast, etc. Up to date advice is not to starve them but to feed them if they want to eat - that includes their formula (I would give it little and often though rather than a bottle full)

Fingers crossed x

she was very sick again so I have been asked to go back to clear fluids (dioralyte) until tomorrow morning. it is going to be a long night...

Hope you got some sleep, how is she today?

Hi, we managed to keep her away from food and milk until the morning. We did lots of evening walks with the buggy to distract her, I'm so glad the weather is nice. We seemed to have turned a corner. She has kept down a little bit of toast and 4 oz of milk and seems chirpier. She's sleeping now. I'm so relieved because she was going to be admitted to hospital today if she couldn't keep any food down.

Thanks for asking. :)
