Can a 2 year old have hayfever?

DH gets bad heayfever from April to August. Has done since he was a child. He used to have to have injections to treat it, but is OK now with daily tablets.

DS is 2. On the basis of many atopic allergies on both sides of the family I did not eat peanuts when I was expecting him, and so far he has been OK (although not yet suffered a bee sting, which is my allergy).

DH's hayfever started a couple of weeks ago. This weekend DS started sneezing and having a runny nose. Could this be hayfever? And even if it is, is there anything we can do as Benadryl is only for over 6es?

When I went to get baby Piriton pharmacist said it wasonly for over sixes.

When I siad BEnadryl before, I meant Piriton.

Anyway, will give it a while to see if it is a cold and it goes away. His eyes are not swollen, which is a good sign.

Yes, definitely! Like you, My DH suffers from extremely bad hay fever every year. When DD was 5 weeks old, we took her to A&E as we were concerned that her chest was wheezy. After some follow-up tests, the paediatrician diagnosed hayfever.

She is now two and is just starting with this season's sniffs & sniffles. I always laugh to myself (Although I know it is not funny!) as about 2 seconds after my husband wakes up in the mornings - he sneezes, DD sneezes and I just think: 'Here we go...'

We had some luck with homeopathic remedies last year - will try again this year.

Ds is 17 months and has it. He has been taking piriton which the pharmacist said was fine.

You can buy piriton for years upwards aswell as 6 upwards, I bought some last Friday :)

Was meant to say 1 year upwards

Will go to a different pharmacy to investigate Piriton. Would be useful to have some in, in case of bee sting at least.
