I thought it was a bit early in the season but ds sniffling and has puffy red eyes.
Have given Piriton and will see if that helps.

Any other tips/remedies? I tried cold teabags last year and he said it was too nippy!

Try Benadryl (cetrazine) which is non-drowsy. Also apparently vaseline round nose, hat with a big brim, and taking a shower at the end of the day help.

Thanks Florence - I think its Benadryl I have - I looked at the date and it was the 8th May last year - so obv must be the cherry blossom he is allergic to.

Try washing hands and face and changing clothes as soon as he gets home. Wash hair before bedtime too. All the pollen will stick otherwise and make it worse. Also try not to open windows in the day, mainly in the bedroom, as you'll let pollen in. Best thing is to open at night.

Piriton, hat, sunglasses. Works for DD (7)...........cold water on corron wool balls as well, just before bed time.
We had weeks of it last year with DD's eyes swelling up etc etc.
I'm not a lover of drugs for kids, but long term it is the only thing that works

i used to buy non branded cetarazine from a local chemist for about £1.99 for 30 tabs, so well worth checking out.

My ds (9) used it for a few years but it stopped being effective last year so I rang the gp and had a telephone consultation and he is now on fexofenadine hydrochloride, a nasal spray (non branded beconaise) and eye drops.

It really is a misery

but may well help to ask your gp :)

Clarityn works for mine.

My local greengrocer swears by locally made honey - he does happen to sell it but worth a try if you can find out if you can get any.

I have an air purifier - like this. I leave the windows closed in the bedroom and leave the purifier on, that way I know that I have a pollen-free bedroom so that I can sleep. I also do the shower-before-bed thing to get the pollen out of my hair and face.

If your DS is mainly suffering with itchy eyes then sunglasses are really good, especially on windy days. They really seem to stop the pollen from being blown into the eyes.

Your poor DS, hayfever is miserable. :( I am so relieved that I am not pregnant or breastfeeding and I can dose up on drugs again. :)
