Overnight eye patch for toddler who strokes eye ball?!

DD2 is nearly two and, when she sucks her thumb she sticks her forefinger in her eye. On the odd occasion that she sleeps in the car/buggy we gently remove her finger without saying anything but after naps/night-time sleeps there's not a lot we can do. When she wakes she has a sore eye and her eyelashes at the end of her right eye are often poking into her eye. It's often quite gunky too and DD2 says, "eye, oh no" with a sad voice :(. It's getting to the stage whereby her lower eye lid is being dragged down and I'm concerned she's going to infect her eye.

Has anyone ever tried using an adhesive eye patch overnight for anything similar? I'm wondering if it's worth a try if only as a short-term thing i.e. until we get a GP appointment then wait months for a referral to a suitable person.

I have no experience of this but I would definitely try adhesive patches to see if it can get her out of the habit.

Second the adhesive patch idea. She'll not like it but maybe you could wait until she is quite definately asleep before fixing it on? Poor love, good luck with finding a solution.
